Monza – the highs and the lows of motor sport

Wider, faster, stiffer, more slippery any of these adjectives or more can be applied to the Porsche GT3 997 RSR that arrived earlier this week from Porsche Motorsport in Germany. The car as you would expect looks immaculate and on initial inspection is race ready. The whole of the industrial estate ground to a halt as the car was wheeled carefully from its transporter.

The 997 on its shake down test at Donington last Thursday.

Paul Daniels “everything feels so much more refined than last years car – a quantum leap in performance” The car will be tested comprehensively over the next weeks so those of you with a budget and a suitable licence then do get in touch if you would like to organise a drive during one of our tests.

JWA Race Calendar

After the double disappointment of not acquiring a season entry for the LMS series and being missed from the list of entrants for the Le Mans 24 Hours JWA have been hard at work putting together a representative programme for 2007. It is as followsEvent Date Circuit
  • 1000 Kms of Germany 30th June 1st July Nurburgring, Germany
  • 24 Heures du Spa 28th and 29th July Spa, Belgium
  • 1000 Kms of Belgium 18th and 19th August Spa, Belgium
  • 1000 Kms of GB 15th 16th September Silverstone, UK
  • Petit Le Mans* 6th 7th October Road Atlanta, US
  • Mil Milhas 10th 11th November Interlagos, Brazil

There are a number of highlights in this calendar. The first will be the 24 Hours of Spa - an event as arduous and second only in prestige to the Le Mans 24 Hours. The second highlight will be a 10 hour race at Road Atlanta in Georgia in the United States of America. This event is known as Petit Le Mans and should provide JWA with there first taste of racing outside of Europe. The final event of 2007 also promises to be a highlight as following our US jaunt the car will be shipped to Sao Paulo in Brazil for the final round of the 2007 LMS.

History

2007 will see the lowest ever number of Porsches start the Le Mans 24 hours since Ferdinand Porsche first ran his cars at Le Mans. In 1954 Porsche entered four 550 RSR cars seen here on the right in a very early promo shot.Car number 39 finished 12th and car 47 finished 14th overall, respectively winning the 1500cc and 1100cc sports car classes.
