Alain van der Merwe to test Aston Martin Vantage GT2

Alan van der Merwe will get the opportunity to test the Aston Martin Vantage GT2 during the Aston Martin Racing exclusive test day at HTT Paul Ricard on 5th March 2008. This will be Alan’s first run in modern GT machinery where his experience and success in a Formula 1 car will prove very competitive during the races and vital in the development of the car during testing. Alain had been looking at potential drives in the US for 2008 but when the opportunity to join JWA and the burgeoning Le Mans Series arrived he was quick to make himself available.

James Watt team principal of JWA said, “I have known Alan since he first began racing. I had the opportunity to work alongside him when he shared his fathers historic Chevron B19. We have watched his career since then with great interest and the feedback I got from friends who worked with him at Carlin Motorsport spoke volumes.

James added “The opportunity to put the world’s fastest Formula 1 driver in our Aston Martin Vantage GT2 was too good to miss. We are working flat out to get him into the car for 2008.”
